87 4R Shifts Too Soon

I did a search and cant find a related topic but my 87 with an auto tranny is shifting 1-2-3 in the first 5 seconds of driving. My wife said she mistakenly drove in 2nd for a while the last time it was driven. The fluid is level and clean and it shifts fine as long as I do manualy. Any ideas? Im gonna sell it but want it driving right before I list it so I would really appreciate your help fellas.
I attempted to edit the topic line, its an 87 not an 84.

Your shift delay cable is broken, frozen or disconnected. Runs from drivers side of transmission just above oil pan to throttle body. Pull on cable at throttle body to see if it moves and has resistance. You can drop the pan to replace it if necessary.
