83 toyota axle or 1-ton military axles

I been lookin into a sas for my truck and the more I research the more I lean to the 1-ton axles. I think I would save money in the end by putting the 1-ton axles under the truck because I wouldn't have to regear it right away, plus the axles would be about unbreakable. Where as with the toyota axle I would have to replace the axles with longfields and regear it. Then on top of it all you cant beat the way a toyota truck looks with full size axle under it. It just gives it this mean look. The big benefit is that I can get the wheels tires and axles for less than $1000. I know the driveshafts would have to be reworked but the truck is getting twin t-cases anyway so either way the driveshaft work was goin to happen. Just wanted to get some input from everyone. Maybe there is an issue I havent thought of yet.

the 83 yoter axle will be easier to install, less fab work.

the 1-ton should be stronger but will require more custom fab. to get them to work right.

You have to upgrade your brake master clylinder to push the bigger brakes. But its not that hard.

You can buy the brakets for the full width swap. I think SKY makes them. Or just build your own.

If you can get your axles wheels and tires for $1000. Do it!

I have a build up thread on here currently https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/start-new-project-86-pickup-115741/
So if you want to see it as it comes along take a look. Its going to slow down for a little while because I got to pay some bills first. Then when I am debt free my truck will be moving along very fast!

The wheels and tires come off of a hmvee (think I got that right). I can get used ones for very cheap, and the tread is not even half way worn and some look brand new. They are 37" goodyear mtr's II

Hmmmm Humvee tires you say? Are they 16.5 rim? Does the sidewall actually saying Goodyear MTR II or does it read Goodyear RTII OZ? I have these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-NEW...spagenameZWDVW

and they are some pretty beefy tires but are 36x12.5 r16.5. Got 4 new for 350 shipped. I know that right now the military uses 37x12.5 Goodyear MTR's.

The toy axle is much lighter and has better ground clearance.

A few upgrades and the toy axle is just as strong and much stronger on a weight to strength ratio.

You will have less issues staying with the toy axle IMO.

And mine looks better than full width anyway.

Full width is neat. Glad you are doing this rather than a crappy stock toy set up. I like keeping things toyota personally, but if you've got a good deal, don't pass it up.

Get it done!

I am going with dana 60's stuffed with 7.17 on 44's. I figured if I go with big axles I better just go on and go with big tires. The truck is going to be designed to be an all around truck. Some times we go mud riding and other times rock crawling or a little of both, so I want to have a rig that is able to conquer both.

I hope your truck has enough power to push those meats and axles. Your gonna need a chevy V8 in there sooner than later.

+1, those axles are probably more than twice as heavy as stock yota axles, plus the huge unspring weight of the wheels and tires....that thing will be a DOG.

IMO, yota axles are the way to go. There's really no justification for doing what you're talking about doing.....
