I've got a '92 Toyota 4x4 SR5 with a V-6 engine and manual transmission. I'm the original owner and it has 235,000 miles on it. I've had a 5th gear vibration for the past 3 to 4 years and it's now getting worse and it's driving me crazy. It only happens in 5th gear, between 50 - 70 mph (begins at 50, worst at 60 and goes away at 70), and only under acceleration. The whole truck seems to vibrate, but the stick does not.

Within the last 6 months I have put on new tires, new wheel bearings, new shocks, new lower ball joints, have had it tuned up (new belts and plugs), and have had the driveshaft rebuilt. None of these have helped the vibration. I had a transmission guy tell me today that he doesn't think it's the transmission because he's never seen one act like this before, but he doesn't know what it could be. Everyone else is telling me it's my transmission. I really don't want to drop the tranny if I don't have to because it'll cost me a fortune. Anyone have any ideas as to the root cause of my vibration? Thanks!

 

I hate to bring this back up but did you ever find a solution? Mine is driving me nuts and I’ve done the OME/Bilstein front and rear recently with zero help. Added a 4 degree shim last week and it’s helping tremendously but still no fix. I’ve got a 2001 extended cab 3.4l 5speed
