5speed tranny question

I have a 95 4cyl with a 5-speed tranny and installed a 4crawler 1" BL. Occasionally my tranny pops out of 2nd gear. Has anyone had this happen after installing a BL? I don't have trouble in any of the other gears.

It does not have any trouble shifting into any of the gears, they all feel the same. I'm concerned that I might have a synchronizer going bad on me. I had an 88 honda accord that acted the exact same way in 5th gear. I have 160,000 miles on my truck and it has been well maintained.

Any thoughts? Any way to isolate to the synchro or not?

have you checked the clearances on the shifter and opening in the tunnel? remove the console, boot etc and operate the shifter. you might just need to open up the hole a bit for the shifter to clear.

it might be being bumped enough while driving to nudge it out of gear. take it for a test drive without the console and boot so you can see for certain.

x2 on it likely being due to the shifter clearance. It's probably the boot simply tugging on it, causing it to pop out of gear. Try messing with the boot to fix it. Some people cut the boot a bit, or you could iniver the boot.

I had a similar problem with my t-case shifter after I installed a 2" body lift. But my tranny shifter wasn't really affected, probably because the boot is old and flexible.

Thanks guys, I'll give that a try. Early on after I did the BL I noticed the boot on the tranny shifter was compressed so I thought that was the problem. I was able to pry the boot past the indentation to allow it to "float" more freely on the shifter, but still it pops out of gear sporadically.

I'll remove it and give it a look.

So do these trannys generally not have synchros go bad? I'm still relatively new to yotas.

shifter clearance (around the opening into the cab) or worn engine or trans mounts.
edit- you've lifted the body and given the shifter less room to move, so anything that presses aganst the lever could conceivably cause it to move.
edit 2- you might look into a short-throw kit:http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...ter/index.html
