5spd problems

I'm getting frustrated. Now, my transmission has a hard time going into 4th gear and sometimes 3rd. It feels like it goes in, but doesn't and pops right back out. It does this on occasion.

I think I am going to replace the gear oil/fluid and see what happens. Any other suggestions? Thanks

My trans. did this exact same thing for 3 years untill it finally gave out on me. I would hold it in the gears on limp it along as far as i could some days and others it would shift fine. Last year it finally gave out on me and i ended up buying a new transmission. Hind sight being crystal clear i figured out that in the early stages it was the shift forks going out and after me limping it along the gears finally gave out as well. Towards the end before the new trans. i skipped gears like from first to third and third to fifth it sucked but gave me enough time to save up for a shiny new one.

I'm guessing you have a bent 3/4 fork or control shaft.

FIRST, try replacing the Shifter Seat Bushing. MarlinCrawler makes a fantastic replacement for under $20.

As far as replacing the manual transmission fluid go with Redline MT-90.
I went with the Amsoil stuff, which seemed to make my shifting less smooth compared to the Toyota shop stuff. The MT-90 seems to get a lot of praise on this board, so I will be going with it next time. I still like the Amsoil severe gear stuff in my diffs., but that's a different topic.

It only pops out of gear every once in awhile...like the whole day today I had no problems.
