5 speed swap on a 87 runner~
Well this past weekend I started my swap! It took me almost a week to get all the little stuff for this swap, but now I have everthing I need! I got my old tranny about half way out and I have a few questions! How do I get the tourq converter bolts off? Do I get them out threw the starter hole? Also how do I get the piolet bushing out of the back of the engine? Other than that everthing is going well! I will post up some pics here soon! Any help would be great! Oh and one more question how do i make sure and get the hole in the floor board right for the shifter to come threw? Hey Im a new to this swap stuff but i like learning as I go!

To get the hole right, just lay down the new shifter boot holder and draw a line around it then when you do your cut make the cut about a 1/2" inside of that line you just drew in the sheet metal. Thats what we did when we did my swap last year.

How do i get to the torque converter bolts thought? Also do I hold my shifter boot holder kinda in the center of the old auto holes or hold the top of the boot holder to the top of my old tranny hole!

ok hold on! So I dont have to pull the torque converter bols out first before I pull the tranny? I have pulled a few trannys before but not a toyota auto!

nope, go ahead and drop the tranny then the TC will still be up in there and it may just slide out, i cant remember, but im PRETTY sure there are bolts holding it on.

I put the trans in, stuffed/covered the hole in the top very thoroughly, peeled the carpet back, and used a cut-off wheel on an angle grinder. Pretty? Maybe not... but I got the holes where the trans wants the levers to be, and not where the boot thinks it wants to be.
