5 blinks, then 6.. then pause

When re adjusting the valves and timing, I checked the check engine light. It blinked five times then six, then paused, then started over. Is this a 5 and 6 or is this 56. Either way, does anyone know what this means and how do I fix it?

Thanks

That is the way I would read it as "56" but I cannot find anything relating to code "56" in the book. After that I was reading "5" and "6", but "5" confused me because it is a brand new o2.

if its a new o2 double check that it got pluged in good, or maby you just got a defective one, it happens from time to time

There is no code 56 on a 87 4runner. I wouldn't worry about the code6.
Check for other reasons to kick the o2 code... is there any vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks ahead of the sensor?

its true there is no code 56 but there is 2 digit codes that your page you posted is not showing. check out this code list it is much more complete, the chart you posted is for older models. http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/codes/index.html

Thanks a lot. Since I added a header after the HG replacement, the o2 sensor is now down after the collector. I took some wire that matched the gauge of the sensor wire and soldered in a patch wire and shrink wrapped it, almost 3 feet. Is it ok to run it that far?

You should get an inexpensive volt/ohm meter and see if it's getting a good signal from the ECU. Search the site on o2 sensor/oxygen sensor. Plenty of good threads on how to do this.
