Thumbs down 4x4 Lever not working?

I have a 95 pickup and the 4x4 lever will move like it's in neutral and that's it. Iv'e tried forcing it, but it won't budge. It's stuck in 2H right now, which is fine till it snows. Anyway, I have had the clutch replaced recently and is it possible they put something back together wrong?

Any thought's on this will help! thanks!

Are you trying to shift on the fly? It doesn't work in 3rd or up, gotta be going slow in 2nd to get it to engage on the fly.

I don't think you can install the lever backwards (wouldn't matter) but it could be, and is hitting the shifter boot plate.

If you can, take all the shifter boots out (5 min job) and see if that does anything. Even try taking the transfer case shifter out. See if there's something lodged in there.

Remove the shifter and inspect the end bushing.

its possible the shop installed the shifter wrong when they reinstalled it.

3rd gear has nothing to do with it. If he has ADD, he can shift in any speed up to 50mph. If he has manual hubs, it won't work in anything over 5mph UNLESS the hubs are locked, in which case it works up to 50mph.

You can absolutely install the lever backwards, in which case it will only go into neutral and nothing out. Sounds like that is the issue to me.

There is no body lift on the truck.....um, I am going to remove the shifter and see if there is something lodged or they installed in wrong.

Does anyone have a pic of what the shifter looks like when removed? I probably won't be able to tell if it's wrong just by looking at it.....thanks so far!

And I am not trying to shift it on the fly at all, just need to get it working again.
