4wd not working

On a day like today 4wd decides to up and bite the dust. I have a 95 4unner with the 3vze and an automatic transmission. Issues with the unit that will not lock into 4 high or 4 low. I did have problem a couple years ago with the ADD system on this thing and decided to bypass the unit and run the system off a switch to engage the 4wd. Earlier this year I was having issues with a nasty vibration on this unit and found the rear output shaft on the transfer case to be loose. Don't know if that lil piece of information helps. I'm just trying to figure out if i need to replace the transfer case on this unit or is there a quick fix?

Isn't the t-case integrated with the rest of the transmission casting on the auto?
