4runner roll bar in a pickup?

The local pick n pull place has a few mid to late 80's 4runners and the roll bars are only 20$ so I was thinking of mounting one in the back of my 86 ext cab truck. I can't seem to find any pictures of how they mount and haven't had time to hit the pick n pull yet, I could see the runners from the highway. Does the roll bar just mount to the tops of the inner fenders and the rear of the bed floor? Does anyone have pictures of this? I just thought it would be some added strength under my camper top (when I put it back on) in case of a roll-over.

Thanks bunches.

What about adding a anti roll bar (sway bar) and making discos for them. That's probably what I'd do if I were putting a camper in the bed.

I think this is the tread with what you are looking for:

Unfortunately, my work computers ban photobucket so I can't see the pics. It it is, should be able to ask how he mounted the bar.

Are the first generations the only ones that come with roll bars? If so then I'll grab as many as I can while I'm there since I can't tell the generations apart on the runners, or the trucks for that matter.

the first gens look much like your truck... and yes, they are the only year, in america at least, to come with factory roll bars... they are a very sought after upgrade for 2nd and third gen 4runners...
and the second gen runners and third gen trucks are waht matt116 and my runner look like...

Having flopped my truck once, this interested me. One thing though, in its current state, the 2nd gen 4Runner will fit a sheet of plywood most of the way in. The roll bar would prevent that I would think.

Ok the plan is this. If I don't go wheeling Saturday morning then I'm going to the junk yard thing instead. I have to get some other things while I'm there but the first thing I'll do is case the joint and grab every roll bar I can find, well to a point anyway...... I don't want to walk out of there with 6 or 7 of the damn things.

I'll let you guys know how many (if any) I can get home.

This how they mount , right to the floor with 4 bolts to each leg.

I have this one in my second gen 4runner the only differance between 1st and 2nd gen I belive is the legs need to be cut and rewelded then mounted to the floor.

On my 2nd gen I made some plates for the bottom side above the tires so they were secured better then just thru the sheet metal of the floor.

If you do get any more then one check shipping to 20764 for me for one I need one more for my other 2nd gen runner , Grayhound to D.C. will work for shipping as well.

One thing though, in its current state, the 2nd gen 4Runner will fit a sheet of plywood most of the way in. The roll bar would prevent that I would think.

If it will slide inbetween the wheel wells you should have no problems.

If you look I belive that you should have no problem with the wood or you may have to wedge it a bit higher on one side or the other but I belive you can still get the plywood inside with little to no problem not sure I have not tryed yet but it should be still pretty easy to fit inside.

Thanks for the pic! Now all we need to do is find one (or three) and see if it'll mount in the rear and not get in the way of my highlift.

it look like it will deffinately hit the hilift, but thats okay, once you get the bar, you can just mount the hilift to it!

...Don't all or most of the 2nd gen 4Runners have roof racks? That's a good place for a piece of plywood.
