4runner problems-Oil leak and AC

I'm looking at another 4runner but it has a couple of problems. I'm not a mechanic or good with vehicles at all, so I'm in need of some help. The one I'm looking at is a 87 with 200k miles. The owner said that he'd tried recharging the AC, but within a week all the freon had leaked out. Second, it has a slow oil leak near the rear main seal. Any ideas on the culprit of the problems and maybe an estimated cost of repair? Thanks!

Well, a slow leak near the rear main seal sounds like a leaky rear main seal.

the AC problem.... that leak could be anywhere. i believe they have a dye you can add to locate the leak.

if it is the rear seal...that requires pulling the tranny to get to it. It could be the oil pan gasket at that, or from somewhere else. If its not a bad leak and its the seal, its still drivable, just keep an eye on the oil level from time to time. You will have to get under there and look to be sure. AC, as stated above, could be from anywhere at all...
