Direct drum works only in all high gears no matter in 2wd or 4wd, but doesn't work in 4 low thats why is not affected in 4 low. you can replace it if you can find one. good luck

So I am trying to see if this is a more simple job than just swapping hte tranny with a different one. Problem one for me, identifying the part needed. lol.

I dissassembled the transfer case to this point I belive the drum in question is in the box off to the bottom left of the image. I noticed darkened area around the outside of the drum on one end. But I can't see where the mentioned teflon seal is?

 

I have this same problem. Did you ever finish the project and where did you get parts. Mine has the same burn marks on the drum but the seals on shaft look ok.

 

Hi there. After some more research I decided beat route was swapping in different tranny. I just didnt feel confident the broken one was going to be fixed so easily.
