You can use the gas tank from a chevy S10 blazer, it will mount were the spare tire goes and you could probably find a used one cheap.

 

What mods do you have to do to mount it? Fab new mounts? Cut the tire carrier out?

 

A early Ford Bronco is fairly easy to fab in and they hold 23 gallons. I have installed one in my 1st gen truck. Pictures are shown in a post I created a while back. Use the search and type in 23 Gallon Fuel Tank Install.

 

The tire carrier just unbolts, you can mount the S10 gas tank with straps or weld up some mounting brackets.

 

I like the 2nd auxiliary tank idea, but not the extra weight. There has to be some other options for more capacity using only one tank, that also will not hang to low to bash into rocks/stumps and can potentially extend toward the rear where the spare would be... Only looking to add 2-5 gallons, maybe more, of additional fuel in the tank and carry extra elsewhere. I know everyone says "RESEARCH, research, research", but if you google gas tank swap, it only gives you a couple options to choose from. If one was to do the 3.4 swap, couldn't you just use the donor vehicle tank, provided it's the larger capacity tank? Maybe swap out for a chevy 22-23 galling tank altogether? I love tinkering, it's not a new thing, but swapping parts to construct something cool is stuff I'm new to learning.

Yeah, I'm not real worried if the original guy answers my question or not, I just hoped, thought and figured someone else might have some new info.

 

the longbed and extra cab trucks go the 19 gallon tank
the shortbed and base model 4 runner got 17 gallon tanks
the 4runner with 31" tire package got a 19 gallon.

I tried putting a 19 gallon from an extracab into my short bed. it is a no go. might be possible with body lift kit.

 

There are 3 gas tank sizes, 14.5, 17.5, 19.5.

They will all bolt right up. From the flange up, its all the same. The flange down is where the differance is. If you move up to the 19.5 you will need the skid plate to go with it, along with the fuel pump/ sending unit as these are longer. So if you can get a good shape one used with all the parts It may be worth it. I had the 14.5 gallon one and was filling up every other day almost. It rusted around the fill so I got a used bigger one from texas and am happy with it, except I have to pay more to fill it...

I have the same question. what I've heard is if it was sold with big tires 31x10.5 then big tank. Look at B pillar (driver door opened) look for tire size.
My tank is 13 inches tall, we want one that is 14 tall. When at junk yard take
pics of VIN No. put that in toyotavindecoder.com that will tell the tank size.
Does the bigger tank fit? I hope so. still on that quest. hope this helps sum.
