I have a 94 4Runner v6 3.0 4WD and recently it has been difficult to start. I will turn the key and the Engine will click once and then make a low humm and all the dash lights will dimm and go off. Some times it will do this 20 times in a row others it will start on the second try. Once it has been warmed up it starts fine.

Today it ran very rough after starting for the first 30 seconds now it runs fine.

Any idea on what is causing the problem?

 

Sounds like the starter is going bad, might need a new one or could get the old one rebuilt if money is and issue but not sure why it would be running rough.

 

check all the battery cables first and see if that helps

 

Lights in the dash going dim is a bad battery or back connection to it, When thats resolved then go for the starter.
