4Runner at the 1987 NYC Auto Show

Edit: I took this photo at the 1988 Auto Show, not 87. They were showing off the brand new 3.0L V6 engine (lower left) that debuted in this 88 4Runner & is out of focus in the picture, I wonder why . I had an 87 4Runner at the time, the first vehicle I ever bought new so was pretty stoked to see this at the show. I think my smile was even bigger than hers.

Very cool! What I wouldn't give to be able to purchase a brand new 80s 4runner these days!

Funny thing is if Toyota amongst other companies would get their head out off their a**es they could remake the runner with updated tree hugging specs and make a frickin killing, I can only dream at this point, but damn look at the paint, the top, the shiny glass, man....amazing

My error, I finally remembered this was at the 88 NY Auto Show, they were showing off the new V6 that debuted in the 88 4Runner.

Exactly. The new 4Runner with 34 years of technology advances could not even get the 21 MPG that my 1986 gets.
