4cyl third into v6 housing?

Looks like I need to replace my rear third - I have found a 4.56 third locally but the owner does not know if it is a 4cyl or V6 third. Will a 4cyl third bolt right up? Or is there any issues with the drivshaft flange and/or axel spline count? Help!

I believe the difference is 4 spider gears versus 2 spider gears for the 4 cylinder. I don't think it will adversely effect you one way or the other. Where you get into trouble is with the rebuild kits you need the right gears and bearings then, but for a component swap either is fine, v6 is probably a little stronger.

ya they will interchange.. flanges are possibly different, just have a 30mm socket to swap em. the v6 third casting is much beefier and is a stronger third but the 4banger will hold up fine
