3VZE Knock Sensor Problems

I am receiving a code 52 which I understand to be an open/shorted knock sensor. I initially traced the problem to be a severed wire, at the point where the shielded signal wire enters the intake manifold.
I have heard that it is at least a 4 hr wrenching one way so I wasn’t planning on taking that route. I have heard of other people having this problem and mounting a new knock sensor on the lifting hook. Now I know there is a reason for the sensor to be mounted in its designed location but I have plans to replace this motor after hunting season so I just need to make it a few more months (or as far as it will go).
I pickup up one of the cheapest knock sensors I could find from the parts house mounted it on the lifting hook and terminated the signal wire. With no prevail code 52 was still there!!
*Trouble Shooting So Far:*
-Checked the signal wire for grounding – It is not grounded to any reference point within the meters reach
-Checked the signal wire for continuity from sensor to ECM – That passed
-Signal wire is shielded all the way to the knock sensor and shield is grounded
-The output from the knock sensor is responsive; as I accelerated the motor I could see an increase mV

For those of y’all that have attempted (and preferably successfully cleared the infamous code 52) please help!!

Just an update; I found a replacement knock sensor from a donor motor in the junkyard. I brought it home welded a nut on the motor mount and that is where I installed my new knock sensor. Code 52 is Gone!!!

If you are headed out to obtain the knock sensor before you teardown your own engine there are some things you might want to bring. The knock sensor is located between the heads on top of the block meaning a 1/2" ratchet with extension will be needed to remove the sensor. Also the socket required is fairly large; I can't remeber if it was a 19 or 21 mm but I would bring large sockets incase.
