I have a beat up 1988 4runner with a rebuilt motor with 2 years left on the warranty. i want to upgrade to a newer body. i did some research and found that my 3vze will swap into any 4runner that has/had the same engine as long as the tranny is the same (so up to 95?). i know there are small changes but if i just take my engine harness and transplant it with the motor i shouldnt have any problems...correct? anything i should know?

The ECM is different after 90. So yours won't work with 91-95 because the body wiring harness connector won't fit. But you could probably make it work somehow. Could be a lot of rewiring, and/or swapping of other electronics(non-engine related).
