3vze to 22re Swap

I've been searching for the past 45mins and cant seem to find the walk through pages. I know I've seen em before but I guess I'm not plugging the right words in.

Anyway could someone link them for me please?

I also had a question.

Is the ECU all that needs to be changed out electrical wise or do you have to hack up new sensors, ect?

PS: Feel free to give your "Why goto a smaller engine comments" but the 3.0 is a piece of junk and I plan to build a stout little 22re.

3.4 is way to expensive for my wallet. If theres no harness I could build a 22re for $1000 and have it in for $1500. A friends got a clean 22re that just needs a cam and head that hes gonna sell me cheap.

Yea, but all that work for an actual downgrade. I meant he V6 stinks but it has more power.

I say you wait till the HG fails before you do anything.

In regard to your wiring issue: there is the obvious ignition difference: 6cyl vs 4cyl So you're need to make the V6 harness work with a 4cyl coil, and then do something about the 2 extra dangling injector plugs you'd have there.

If you really want to do this, I'd suggest swapping the harness completely. Might be a PITA, but probably worth it in the end. Hell even just pulling my 22RTE apart, and pulling it back together it was a challenge getting the harness to go back where it was supposed to(so no wores are pulled on). So trying to force the V6 connectors to the 4cyl layout would be less than fun.

Hmmm I will openly say I am very afraid of redoing an entire wiring harness...

Anyone have a link to this swap?

Hrmmm...

You could have a 3.4 V6, which is a very very common swap, with tons of available info, and it's very swap friendly in this case, and you can leave it stock and you'll have way more power and torque than any built 22RE would ever hope to have, and you also have more potential to mod it down the road for even more power if you need more than what the 3.4 V6 offers.

I can hear you about the 22RE, but if you can't afford to do a 3.4, I can guarantee because this isn't a common swap, there will be enough things that may nickel and dime you to death that you probably should have gone with the 3.4 to begin with.

I did this swap a couple of months ago. I got the engine out of a 92 pickup and put it in a 94 runner that used to have a 3vze. I swapped the tranny/transfer case, both driveshafts, power steering lines, gauge cluster, engine harness, fuel line from hard line to fuel filter in engine bay, hydraulic clutch line, and the rebuilt 22re of course. The motor mounts were another challenge. Instead of cutting the old ones off I opted to make some adapter plates that bolt on to the v6 frame mounts. I also had to modify the 22re engine mounts to match the angle of the v6 mounts. This way I can always swap in a 3.4 if I ever have the time/money and drive to do it. I was pretty lucky with the wiring not being much of an issue. The engine harness unplugs from the chassis harness right behind the ecm in the passenger side kick panel. My donor truck had the same style of plugs as the runner. The only thing I had to change on the harness to make it all work was to splice in the wires for the ADD system on the runner. There are only a few things I haven't finished up on this as they are minor for me and I wanted to drive it. I am missing parts for the cruise control system and I need a 22re AC clutch to swap on my compressor. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them the best I can.

Yeah its not gonna happen for a while. I'm going to do some research and find out all the little requirments. I was going to opt for that swap because I thought it was gonna be real basic and utilize alot of the same parts but it obviously isnt going to.

i know people who have done 3.0 to 22re and it is a good swap just because reliability but.

I just did a 3.4 swap on a sas'd runner n ive done 3-4 swaps on other trucks. and ive owned 3.0 and 22re's the 3.4 gets about the same mileage as a 22re if put together right. i averaged 18 with 39.5's and 410's. Yeah unbelieveable i know.

with my stock 22re and 33's i averaged 17. i would much rather have a 3.4 than a 22re more power torque and a great motor and can push alot more.

If i was gonna do a 22re swap please atleast do 22ret

Yeah swapping harnesses is not that big a deal..pretty easy IMO..also it would be a crap ton easier to go carb instead of EFI...just sayin
