What about the pick up coil in the distributor, have you checked that ?.

 

Bolts??? The VAFM should NEVER be disconnected via the bolts; there's a quick disconnect just prior to those that should be used. If the bolts were loose, I'd bet $100 that the internal wires have been pulled loose.

What is occurring in the video is ABSOLUTELY indicative of the VAFM being disconnected.

 

Checking the VAFM currently, the bolts were loose again... almost like they were stripped. and there was 2-3 wires disconnected :/

The VAFM could be causing all these issues perhaps?

Oh, it's bad. The reason I asked "which bolts" is because there are the four that you are supposed to remove in order remove the AFM from the housing.........in the event you have to replace it, or something. In which case, there's the gasket that seals the unit from unmetered air. Then there are the forbidden ones that hold the circuit board in the unit. Those are the ones I suspected were tampered with though I didn't want to jump to conclusions. There are a numerous threads where people have done this and it almost always end in bad news. One guy, I recall, was able to solder things back together. I guess we'll see how lucky Mak92 is feeling?

 

Seeing how the truck is at a professional shop, they wont solder things. they replace. I honestly still have no clue whats wrong with it. All I did was call the place, tell them to check the VAFM. and he said he would. this was at 7:30, and im still waiting for answers. so we'll see... :/ it makes sense though. my ignition system is turning over, but its not firing... and everything on the ignition is brand new, practically.

 

Heyyyy! guess what...

It was the VAFM. some of the pins were pulled out on the clip itself, and they were stuck inside the Unit. ( probably from the screws being loose and moving around? ) but basically the damage ( cost ) is close to 500 bucks ( including the tow ) so basically I got a new coil, VAFM, couple new vacuum hoses and of course...3 HOURS OF LABOR.

Dont look at my cost. thats with labor, and a new coil. the new VAFM part i needed was only 170-180. so its really not that bad.

 

you coulda just got it back to your house...and did the surgery yourself

and I'd rather have them fix it before i cause any more problems! its warrantied, so if anything happens. Im good!

should run like a champ though. with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. I'll be able to test gas mileage on my way down to pismo!

 

You said it's not firing, yet you/the mechanic were able to atleast start it? Even though I don't remember all the details of the AFM circuits and how it controls things, I'd venture to say it was probably cutting voltage to the ignition circuit. Definitely was cutting power to the fuel pump. Whatever, though.........some kind of default/emergency mode going on.

BTW, where'd they get the new AFM unit? It's probably reman'd? See if it says "Denso" on it. If not, it's probably the inhouse brand from whatever parts store they got it from. The reman'd Denso units from AutoZone, atleast, are reman'd by Beck Arnley....in which case, you'll be good for a while to go. I can't vouch for any other reman'd units. The inhouse one's from AZ suck ballz, though!

 

The truck fired up when we got the new plug back in!

thook - it wasn't the unit itself, it was the plug that had the broken clips. so I guess I lucked out! Thanks for your help. you're the man! I would've been completely lost. Even my mechanic was stumped. The truck is currently being timed and I should have it back today! I greatly appreciate your help. I was stressing that I wouldn't be able to drive it to pismo. lol

 

OH! Okay. So, it was the plug or terminals on the unit that were damaged and not the entire unit? Didn't realize you could replace that without rewiring and soldering. Get some pics, if you would, of where/what you're talking about/what was replaced.

yeah it was the plug + terminals that were damaged. When I go in to pick up the truck, i'll post pictures of what was replaced.

 

the problem with mine is that non of the injectors work, except the cold injector and i have check everything. so is probably the ECU

 

are you sure its the injectors? are you getting fuel when you turn it over?
