not sure mechanics should be doin that either. I do it, but on my car and my car only.

Sorry, I forgot to quote him on it. I believe you, still wondering about Mr_Martinez. What's he sayin' exactly? His truck gets goin' like 105 miles per hour when the rpms top out, or that he found the governor/miles per hour limiter around 105?

stock horsepower peak is 4800 so that would be a good redline.

i have heard that reving an engine in neutral (without a load was BAD)

my 3.0 seems to like to rev. it feels out of sorts at lower rpms then clears out at what feels like the torque peak, 3400

i have the cheap guage cluster so its just a guess.

it seems to me that the biggest problem with the 3.0 is a torque peak too high, 3400 rpm.

This thread makes me laugh.

My 3vze has been beat to hell and back. 5800rpm shifts every day of its 10 span with me. She's seen 285,000 miles. No issues other than a popped HG a while back. Still has plenty of power and still sees 4500-5500 rpm when I drive her. I have calmed down slightly on my yota since my GTO appeases my need for speed. But comeon people the 3vze was designed to rev!! Just adhere to the severe duty maintainance schedule and youll be fine.

btw, you want a high rpm torque peak, becuase you want area under the curve. A higher torque peak means more hp, since afterall the hp is a calculated number based off tq....

The 3vze needs tq down low, in mid range, and up top. Hell it needs tq everywhere.

Oh and I still get 20mpg on highway.

Well thats you, I can't afford to have mine break. With only 84000 miles it shouldn't, but I'm not taking any chances, especially with an old timing belt

You saying you're running the original t-belt? I hope not!

To tell you the truth, I know that it's been replaced, but it was maybe 5 years ago at least and I don't know at what mileage. Another thing is that it was installed by a chevy dealer (don't ask me why, it wasn't my truck then) because a bearing seized on something (I think in an idler pulley). Thats why I'm kind of skeptical about the timing belt

HP=Torque @ 5252 RPM
i redlined my truck once, by accident. i dont think she liked it, so i didnt do it again.
and bumpin, how'd the 3.0 satisfy your need for speed b4 the gto? speed is certainly not one of my truck's attributes.

lol, other than beating up on Prius' and Xb's it really did not satisfy that need. However it made up for that deficiency by being able to go whereever I really wanted to go and by having a bitchen stereo!

the Goat fulfills that need to go fast VERY well.

10-4, Im just saying revving it wont "hurt" it persay. Shorten life expecancy sure, but its still a toyota!

BTW swapping the T-belt is easy. Jump in there and have some fun! Oh and the 3vze is a non-interferance engine, so if the timing belt broke on you, everthing should be ok.

Yes, if the t-belt breaks the only bad thing is you will need a tow home

And for the record, I hardly ever take my engine over 3,500rpm except for the occaisional full throttle run. I can't afford to keep pumpin fuel into it

Nothing stops this truck between 3000-4000 RPM's, especially aroun 3300-3600 RPM's, but I haven't taken it over 5000 RPM's (no point) and I rev it to about 4500 every so often but generally like to keep it below say 3000 when driving reguarly (I usually shift between 2600-3000 depending on the gear). A nice steady highway drive at about 70 MPH at around 3000 RPM's seems to help the engine clean itself out a little bit. I don't know if it's just me or the fact that everything gets up to operating temperature and all that, but my truck seems to run a little better after a nice highway drive.

rev limit is 5750 rpm just like every truck engine toyota has put out 79-04.
5vzfe, 22re, 22rte, 3vze, 2rz, 3rz, 1gr-fe, all have the same rev limit.

Mine tends to idle at 1100-1200rpm after a nice hwy drive
Need to get that replacment o2 sensor in there soon!

ditto - ive had my 3vze DEEP into the 6k rpm region without hitting any kind of limiter. (Accidentially)

The 5vzfe is redlined at 5200rpm vs my 3vze's redline of 5800.

my 3.4 and my 3.0 both have 5500 rpm "redline's" and i've hit the rev "limit" at 5750 as well.
ALTHOUGH, with the 3.0, i have miss shifted and gone over 6 grand.... (3.4 is an auto)

no clue what it was set at, damn the DLX cluster, but I hit the revv limiter for the first time ever in my truck the other night. In an auto. The engine screams at those RPM's, but oddly, I felt sure that it wouldn't blow. It seems to like to rev when you put the gas to it. It felt solid with pretty decent output @ rev limits. She drank gas pretty quick though. I had it up near the top end for about 15 minutes, engine temp gauge moved to where it normally is during the summer, so no over heating. The truck stretches well...

Yeay for muddy fields! I'll post pics of the mud on my cleaned the truck thread, haha.

The funny thing is, around 3-4k the 3.0 sounds like its gonna blow up, but after around 4500rpm it all smooths out.

Ever heard of floating a valve?? Revving an engine with no load on it is very bad for the engine. They aren't made to be revved that high with no load.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/5...ng-soon-77718/

"A high-rpm engine condition in which the valve lifters lose contact with the cam lobes because the valve springs are not strong enough to overcome the momentum of the various valve train components. The onset of valve float prevents higher-rpm operation. Extended periods of valve float will damage the valve train."
