3rd Yota, need advice

Hey All,

I just bought my third and hopefully final yota. The first two I owned during high school and met the wrath of my stupidity and ultimately were rolled. Today I bought a 1990 4cyl, ext cab, 4x4. I want to get it up to 200 hp if at all possible so any suggestions would be awesome. I work on the railroad and with that I am not home alot, I will be driving this EVERYWHERE so I hope I have time to work on it on the road!!!

uh....yeah, that's not gonna happen EVER without an engine swap or TONS of money to put into a racing engine. looks like the search button is gonna be your friend.

The best way to make 200hp out of your truck would probably be a 7M-GE swap out of a Supra. They're fairly inexpensive, and more or less bolt-in with the right collection of parts.

The best way to make 200hp out of a 22R-E, would be a turbo 22R-E. There's a guy up here that had an 83 Celica GT running a 22R-TE out of a pickup, upgraded with a T28 turbo of some kind, and a standalone engine management system (I want to say he was running a megasquirt system). The thing made 200whp, and an ass-load of torque. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have experience building turbo motors and want to spend probably twice what a 7M would cost you.

Well I know I don't want to do an engine swap, so that is out of the question. I was thinking about doing a header full exhaust, intake and then finding a good chip that I can adjust. The header and exhaust are not hard at all, but finding a chip seems to be the issue, If anyone has any good suggestions please let me know.

Your best option is probably a Megasquirt system, but that's a complete stand-alone. I don't think anybody makes chips for these cars.

Engine swap. 2 valves per cylinder is a tough sell for 200 hp.
