32's and 4.88 Gears?

Hello,

I know this is always on here but I have a couple questions. I have an 88 runner with 22re. Now it has 31's on it. I want to get BJ spacers for the front and new leaf springs for the back. Now has AAL. I think 33's will fit with this setup but I want more power. With 32's and 4.88's it will have more power than with 33's and 4.88's. But I need money. I want the pro-comp mud- terrain and the 32's & 33's are about the same price. I want it to hold speeds up the hills. This one hill leaving school it will not hold 50 going up it, It's not really that steep. If I shift down to 3rd it will but at 50 it's screaming in 3rd. Now it's pretty much a dog. It's only got 96,000 miles on it. What would you guys do. The bj spacer are 130$ + Downey springs are 200$ + tires and wheels ae about 800$ + Gears are what, 500-600$? = 1630-1630$
I only paid 2,400 for it! That's like 5000$ for the thing. I don't know it I like it that much. It is old.
I am still in school and I work at mcdonalds. That will take me a while to make that much. I don't need the rear spring now but it rides like a tractor. It's so stiff. I would like to get gears first. For the 2grand in suspension and tires I might be able to swap a 4.3 vortec in, That would be sweet. , But then I would need a new clutch and the labor for all that stuff would be expensive. I don't know what I want to do.

Please Help

you can fit 32's without lift. 33x10.50s should fit w/out lift as well.

I ran 4.88's with 29's for a while, the difference was noticeable, but not much. I still needed 3rd to get up hills, and my engine has less than 20k on it.

The 22re is an underpowered motor. It has decent torque in low range, but power it has little of.

If you think you can swap in a motor for 2k, i'd do that instead, seems like you are more interested in power than wheeling, and that would suit your purposes better, i think.
BTW, you need more than a new clutch with the vortec swap.

Engine swaps are expensive, be smart with your truck what do you NEED first? well in your case it sounds like a soft ride, get your suspension, go find some used 4.88 gears from a stock yota then buy 32s used from a board, youll save an ass load of money.

3rd is your power gear with a 22RE.. no matter what gear tire/combo you have. I ran 32's and 4.88's for about 35K... I liked it.. when I went to 33's I was actually faster uphill at 4500 with 33's is faster than 4500 with 32's.. even faster now with 35's.... They are great around town and on the fwy.. but face it a 22RE is a 22RE... you will need lower gears for big hills... you can hold 5th on some smaller hills.. and 4th is much better but on anything decent its all about 3rd....

Do you think that the junk yards would pull the thirds for me? (What is a third) DIfferential? Axel? 4.56 would be alright even. Wasn't there a thread that said the models and such with gearing combos. It will be a while until I get new tires, Spring or summer. Need cash. I also need a fender flare, stock if anybody has one laying around, back left.

Thanks
