ummm, can i ask why you are going wider as well?

all i know, is that if you have stock gearing, 31's are the safest bet. anything else is just plain risky. your getting an inch all around. not sure i would do it.

i think the 4runner comes with like 28's stock lol i remember my old wheels were TINY!!!

it may be a little slower. less power. worse mpg. some pinch weld smacking may be in order. small body lift may help. you can fit 33x10.5 on those things with no lift.

yeah, thats assuming you remove the runningboards and shave off a tad bit on the wheel weld.

will still rub if you have weight in it/ bumps.

keep the 31's. they are fine.

how do you know he's fine? ive seen that gen 4runner with 33x10.5. like i said before, you may have to bang the pinch weld a bit, but no cutting involved. as far as the runningboards go, oh well, looks better without them. its possible dude. just go for it.

Depending on your gearing that could be Ok or hurt it plenty. Fitments won't be an issue, a little trimming might be required but not much.

What gearing does your truck have? Google "toyota axle code" and lots of pages will pop up on how to see what your truck came with.

Just go for 35s, you will end up there eventually anyhow. Get a 3" bodylift and a 2" suspension and you should be fine. You will be fine with stock gears as well. If you are worried about loss of acceleration and power, leave earlier to get to your destination on time.

lol sacficing time to have them 35's.

im not sure i would run anything bigger than 31's (this is what i have been told numerous times by tires shops and on here) especially since you have an automatic like me..

one tire size wont be that bad. i do always here troy and molly complaining about the auto's OD being to tall, and impossible to get to sometimes. i think 33's are the best option for wheelin IFS. just my 2.

Actually, I got lucky and found a truck with the 4.88/auto tranny/31" tire option.

On that note, Progear just called and I'm off to pick up my 5.71 geared 3rds with rear Truetrac! Turning 33's with the 4.88/auto tranny sucks.

actually, people overthink this whole regearing thing. You can't speed around like tony stewart after you lift these trucks and expect race car like performance. If you aren't impatient, then you will fine with 35s and stock gears. When you are on the trail, why don't you let you're transfer case do the work instead?

I couldn't disagree more. With the auto tranny you couldn't be more wrong. However, it's your truck, clutch, etc... wear it out as fast as you like.

Regearing diffs IS for the street aspects of the vehicles performance.

If you have never owned and operated an over geared automatic 4runner please do not suggest that running 35's with stock gears is Ok. It is not, the truck's power train, transmission in particular, will have a severely shortened life span. The already poor MPG will take a further dive. Newbs read posts like this and if they believe them they will be mislead.

With the 5 speed you'll just eat clutches faster which while a pain to replace aren't terribly expensive.

Re gearing isn't absolutely necessary to do right away. With the mods below, I'm running 33x10.50s on stock gearing, still getting around 16-17mpg, and the truck runs just fine anywhere I take it. Like someone already said, I'm not expecting to win 1/4 mile races in this thing...but it cruises the highway keeping up with traffic just fine...on hills I have to down shift to 4th, but that's not a big deal.

You'll be just fine with your set up and 32s.

check your spare, it will tell you what size tires your truck came with. more than likely, they were 31's and your auto trans should tell you 4.88's. the placard on the drivers door jamb will probably tell you 225's so check that spare.

this is all moot if the po replaced the spare at some time.
