Make it comfortable. Seat swap. Stereo. Brighter headlights. Cruise control. A topper to lock the gear up in. A new battery so it actually starts when you're down by the river alone at 2 a.m.

$300 will buy nice shocks.

.
By this sentence and by your screen name, I would come to the conclusion that you have experienced this at least once?

Lift it 1.5"
-BJ Spacers $100
-Longer shackles for the rear $60
-longer shocks $160

Or help your gas mileage and help your ground clearance
-used Aisin hubs $60
-Budbuilt crossmember $200. If you really wheel your truck in the rocks, your stock crossmember will bend backwards and ruin your motor mounts.

Just some ideas

First i would think what is the catch.

This is going to cost far more then $300.00 till your done.

if you don`t have a wish list I would just use the money for Gas and enjoy going for a ride.

If it's mechanically sound now and you want some added offroad ability, I'd say a locker should be your first purchase. Then the next time you get some allowance, think about some armor. THEN I'd say start thinking about a lift and stuff.
My 2 cents

lock the rear

Automatic locker for rear - *IF* you have a 5spd. On my last truck, I had an Aussie and was very pleased. When I went to buy one recently for my new truck, i didn't find it on their website (they may have just been out of stock), so I bought a Spartan locker this time.

If you've got an automatic transmission, you can try line locks on all four corners - useful not only for traction, but turning on a dime. Will cost only $100/axle for parts. (But these aren't to be used with autolockers, so it's an either-or decision.)

Second pick would be cold air intake and headers, but that'll run you more than $300 unless you get one of the cheap ones (e.g. Pacer), which have mixed reviews (may be fine). On my last truck, I used Downey Offroad's but they're gone. On my new one, I went with Trail Gear. On my last truck, I measured an increase from 15mpg to 17.5 mpg with these changes alone, with minor but noticeable power gain, particularly up hills.
