3.slow may not be that bad!

I just remembered this, about 6 months ago when I was working at autozone I had a guy come in with a 94 4runner automatic 150k miles wanting to change his oil.

So I showed him the oil and got him a filter, followed him out to his truck cause he was old and couldnt carry the bags.

Well I stood out there to smoke a cigarette and he started it up, there was a rediculously loud rod knock, I stopped him and asked him how long it had been making that noise, and he told me "about a year and a half," I bout fell down and busted my a$$, I told him what it was and he already knew, he had the money saved up for a new engine and was just waiting for it to blow...so he drove around houston, tx with a rod knock for a year and a half.

damn.....

I guess that depends though, old people tend to put no miles on cars.

But still a year and a half is a long ass time for the rod knock.

Not wasting money on oil changes will speed up the inevitable.

my dads old 93 had the 3.0...lost #5 somewhere along the line, drove it for almost a year and a half on 5 cylinders to and from work, and hauled alot of firewood. Finally found a dealership that gave him a good trade-in price....on a 98 Ram..I know I know. But the 3.0 was still kickin with 160K on the clock on 5cyls.

The 3.0 is a tough little engine The headgasket was just too weak... I swear, that thing can recover from some LOW rpms!
