3" body lift???
Hey guys, I've had my 91 SR5 4runner for about a month now and I'm looking to get a lift for it with some bigger tires. Tires will probably be 32's or 33's. I just replaced the exhaust with a magnaflow high flow cat and magnaflow muffler so I'm pretty happy with it! I was thinking about just getting a 3" body lift but wanted to consult the gurus before I do anything I'd regret. Right now it's all pretty much stock with 31's and Rancho in cab adjustable shocks (came with the truck). If I were to lift just the body as opposed to a full suspension lift, what would be the downside? This truck (stock) does everything I want to accomplish off road and on the trails around here. I was really impressed on what kind of grades this SR5 climbs and I drive this everyday so I'm not looking for crazy performance, I just want to make sure I won't be down grading AT ALL. Just let me know some recommendations... In a nutshell, I'm basically looking to lift it a few inches with just a tad bit bigger tires without losing performance off-road and without making it uncomfortable to drive on something called "asphault" "as·phalt a mixture of such substances with gravel, crushed rock, or the like, used for paving." whatever that is.....

Sounds like a body lift is perfect for your application.
I would defantly recomend a good kit like 4crawler.com or performance accessories. A body lift will not change much on your truck in terms of handling, since you are only lifting the body (not much weight) your COG will stay nearly stock. You will be able to keep those adjustable rancho's too.
I have had my lift for about a year now and I love it! Never gave me any problems at all, the only time I notice it is when im working on my truck, which is now easier with all the added room I can change my starter in a few mins!
Go for it! But keep in mind, you CAN run up to a 33x10.50 stock with minor fender clearancing (on the pinch weld).

I keep hearing bad things about their kits, mine went in with very little problems and everything was pretty good quality. A year of beating on the truck and no problems!

I've had 2 3" inch kits from Performance accessories, and I have no complaints at all about them, i'd buy another one but i'll probably go with 4crawler for my 1".

I'd say go for the 3" BL, I like mine, but not sure of the brand; it was on there when I got it. I know your truck is newer, and a 4Runner, but this may give you an idea of what you'll have.
Here is my '84 pickup with 33x12.5's.

wow, mine would look great like that. I was going to get 2" springs and 33's or so. Would ba a bit smaller but I don't need anything too drastic for my application. Great looking white runner, welcome to the club!

I just put a 2" performance accessories body lift on yesterday. It wasn't terribly complicated. The front pumper was a royal PITA because of a fender bender with its previous owner. I thought the instructions were junk. I printed off 4crawler's instructions and went off those. I have yet to really test it yet, so I can't say much, but it seemed like a good quality kit. However, I would still recommend the 4crawler kit, but that's simply because he's such an awesome and helpful guy on these boards.

This thread makes me happy. All this posts about body lifts, and not one post spouting misinformation about how lousy and dangerous they are.
On topic: 4Crawler makes top notch stuff, and his instructions are unrivaled. I am very happy with my 2" lift and I even got it 2nd hand!!!
