3.4 swap air intake problems

94 4runner with 99 4x4 4runner 3.4 engine. I have made the swap now I am trying to get it road worthy. It was running strange but running none the less. I hooked it up to a code reader and it said that the maf sensor was screwie. So I did some investagating and I found that I had a maf meter off of a 98 and it isnt compatable with the 99 computer. Now I bought a salvage yard 99 maf meter and made a hole in the air intake so I could fit it in there and test it to find out if that was in fact my problem. Now with that maf it will run for about 2 seconds and die. With the 98 maf I was able to idle and even drive around the neighbor hood but it would run real rich. With the 99 maf could it be that I dont have it located in the right area of the air intake and that I need the complete air intake off of a 99.

P.S. The maf from the 98 looks completely different from the 99.
Thanks,

Chopps

Different sensor, different output signal. Reset you ECM, and try it again with the 99 sensor- also look for possible vacuum leaks around you new sensor mounting.
