3.4 donor

Im always on the look out for a 3.4 wrecked donor. I found this 4 runner. Its a 99. I talked to owner. He says engine was not effected and a lot of recent work had been done before accident. It starts fine, but says after the accident the transmission leaks a ton of oil. The runner had wrecked into some kind of divider on the road. Engine has 200k miles on it. Its been hard lately to find anything with low miles. Also, on ebay i noticed there are tons of these 3.4's for sale. Isnt it better to find a donor vehichle though. Does anyone know a safe place to buy one? What are some things I need to look out for on this engine upon further inspection. The guy is asking 1000k but is flexible.

GOOD DEAL!!!!
NEW TIRES
NEW TIMING BELT
NEW BRAKES AND HOSES

1k is WELL worth it if you are going to do a swap. You can take what you want, and part the rest out and make up that 1k and have a "free" swap. 200k isn't too bad. You aren't going to do much better, and those 3400s last forever.

ok thanks, noticed you did the swap on yours. Just was worried because after the accident it started having serious leakage problems from the transmission. Owner mentioned that they had owned it for a year only, They replaced the head gasket and did tune up work before it was wrecked. Should I worry about that? I figure if this is a solid engine then I should not of needed the work.

After doing the 3.4 swap with my rig I have to agree that you need a complete donor.
Wouldn't worry too much about the trans as you will likely be using the original one that came with your truck.

The thing "I" would be worried about is when they said they replaced the head gasket. WHY did the HG need replacing? I'm guessing it's an overheat or because it was done before they got it and it failed. Replacing a HG properly is a job that requires attention to detail. Unless I did the work myself or knew the person who did the job I would pass on the engine. Too many people replace the HG only to have it blow out again in one to two years. I wouldn't trust it...

If they tell you they did the work themselves ask to see their torque wrench. If they don't have one, what does that tell you...

Yeah I was worried about that. The guy says his brother did the work. Says he works for toyota. I dont know if that means much. For some reason I've heard that before plenty of times. Maybe I'll try and get ahold of that guy and pick his brain. I just figure it should start right up and have zero leaks. I had a donor lined up that was wrecked from the rear, but it sold too quick. Im not planning on doing it just yet, but I guess I cant plan on anything till I get the donor.

Also I was researching and I found this company offroadsolutions. They sell a wiring kit for this swap. Any one here know about this. Is it worth it. I think its around 500, but according to them it makes this process much simpler.

You could/should, of course, test the compression. Make sure the coolant and oil are where they need to be and in proper quantities.

Buy it. Keep what you need and sell the rest.
