3.0L V6 Head Gasket Recall Update

Hey guys! Thought I'd share that as of 7-29-2013 Toyota is still doing the recalls on the 3.slo! I acquired a 91 pickup sr5 with every option and 124k on it but with a blown head gasket. I called up with my VIN to check the recall history and the head gasket recall was still open. So check your VIN with Toyota before tackling it yourself!

Did you get some kind of documentation?
Was this info from a dealership or from Toyota Headquarters (TMC)

That campaign as far as I know has been closed for some time now.
My understanding is that a dealership might do it as goodwill, but seems pretty rare now a days.

Not to jump the gun here but a friend of mine just turned over his keys for the frame recall and that's been over for how long now. I believe they gave him 13,000 but he used it against a new Tacoma to replace his. This was done about 6 months back. So I dunno.

I could understand honoring a closed frame campaign, probably because its a safety issue though.

I tried my local dealer a few years back and they said no, it's not active. So I guess it just depends, looks like the folks up in Washington are a bit more lenient than in California!

Well I just contacted my regional Toyota dealer, got them to look it up in the system that Toyota uses to and it showed "open" on the head gasket and the tie rod. I forgot the name of the program they use but ya basically the manager just said that it doesn't show that we can't do it and it doesn't say the campaign is over so would you like to set up an appointment? I told them there was a different dealer closer to me so I called up my dealer right down the street and they were unsure about it but then i told them the regional dealer said they'd do it and they told me to bring it in. He said he'd have to get ahold of the actual manufacturer plant or whatever but anyway I called a week later and he said the parts will be in by the end of this week.

I read too that the campaign was over but I just figured it was worth a shot. Turns out its still going on or they did it as a good will....but ya the regional manager says that there is nothing in that program that says its over and/or they can't do it anymore....

Weird, never heard of the frame recall

I will try the regional office for the southeast tomorrow and see if this is still in effect as I have a 1991 22re and the head gasket is going out on it, so we will see. Can I still drive it until I find out about it. This is my first yota so I will have to get her fixed soon as deer season is upon us.

This site is really cool as you can find out a lot about your Yota.

I was told when I had my 93 v6 that the recall was a 10year/100k deal. That was here in Phoenix, AZ.

The 22re never had a head gasket recall. Yes, they will laugh at you...
