3.0 is really slow

Me and my friend were hanging out the other day, and we decided to go back to his house to chill. He has an 89 3.0 auto ex cab, all stock and I have 37s a very tired 22re 5speed and 5.29s.

Well we got on a long stretch of road on the way there and he floored it, so I decided to floor it too!! Well we stayed even to 60, and I stopped.

So the moral is a 3.0 is slower than a 22re on 37s!!

I also found out that my truck wont go over 55mph in 5th gear!! LOL poor old 22re!!

I've hit 75...
Not much room around this small town to do anything more than that, without cops on your ass.

Although I did get pulled over once in my old K5 doing 82 in a 55, and he liked the truck so he let me go with a warning.
Got lucky there.

I'd be surprised if the Runner could get me a speeding ticket.
Can't wait for that V8!

The fastest ever in my 3.0 auto with 31's was an indicated aprox. 101mph which turns out to be about 112ish after you correct for the tires. It only got there going down a steep hill with a tailwind and only one time it has happened. Usually the fastest it can get up to is around 85ish indicated. Its ok though, my friends in their trucks may be able to beat me on the street, but cant go near the places I can off road

Well lets think about this.

His is stock with the autotragic and maybe more weight than you. (3.0, extra cab)
Yours is geard and a 5 speed.

Don't get me wrong they are both dogs, but i think there are many variables that aren't being taken into consideration.

1. I am geared for 35s, I have 37s on steel wheels (about 80lbs each)
2. My 22re burned a quart of oil every three days when I daily drove it (now I dont know, but it still has the same motor with 20w-50)
3. Shes a tired old girl!! LOL
4. Both of our front hubs were locked in too, forgot to mention that, I never unlock mine, hes the same way
5. My truck wont go faster than 55 in 5th gear, unless I wind her up in 4th!!

The extracab doesnt weight that much more than the reg cab, plus my SAS stuff probably makes up for that (does anyone know if there is a weight change from IFS to SA??)

I was also shifting at about 4200 he had his foot to the floor, so whenever it shifted it did

lol you are 5speed too. I didnt realize the auto didnt put all the 3.0s power to the gound. I can only imagine what a 22r/ auto combo would be like!! I mean my truck is no speed demon, but it would easily get out of its own way (when it was stock)

That sucks for him! I know how that goes though, I've never won a race in any car I've owned . My 3.0L 5 speed can maybe do 90 on a super long stretch going slightly downhill with either no wind, or a tail wind. And I'd have to really lay into 4th for that to happen lol

Man, mine is really a turd. I'm still geared for 225-75's, and I've got 33's. I think my top speed is around 87-90MPH not corrected.

But a for your friend's 3.0 being slower than your 22RE..... The automatic absolutely rapes the 3.0's power.
