What is a "full ignition kit" and what does it come with and where do I get one?
Thanks

Jacobs ignition. Get everything: computer, coil, wires, etc. Not cheap.

Ive put on a custom cone filter intake, chopped my cat off and am running just a 40 series muffler. 'Platinum' spark plugs(dont know if thats a performance mod?). And I didnt tell any difference, Its annoyingly loud but I cant tell if I gained 5 horsepower. My next project is putting my stock intake back on and getting a high flow cat so I dont piss my naibors off anymore. As to the above saying he topped out at 95? I went camping and lost a cylinder thanks to a missfiring wire grounded to my exhaust manifold and was doing 90mph the whole way home? But Ive been told this my whole life, dont mess with stuff. After all that It didnt gain anything noticeable, its a toyota motor, not built for power really so unless your going to do every bolt on you can find just leave it stock, much more reliable.

you've got a pickup ive got a 4runner. mine outwieghs yours by a good 1500lbs. 4980lb gross the last time I drove across a scale! 3vze equipped pickups will run 0-60 in about 9.5 seconds. I have the best 3vze 4runner time ive seen at 13.8 seconds. All courtesy of weight...

Biggest change I've seen is in MPG from installing AISIN lockout hubs on a '94 with ADD. That and using 93 octane premium.

I heard that new/non factory exhaust headers make it hotter in the engine bay and therefore making the engine not last as long, especially on older engines

I too have spent lots of money with little gain. Borla, K&N, Flexfan etc. etc. The best seat of the pants improvement was the Magnacor Wires and new plugs. My next upgrade will be a Tundra!

NGK Wires + NGK Double Plat. G Power Plugs-steadied idle, increase in performance, and large increase in mpg

I really dont understand why everyone hates the 3.0L so much. It's not a totally bad engine. I have never had a problem out of either of the trucks with this engine. I know that it's not really the best engine, but there isn't anything wrong with it. I've gone up to 150xxx miles so far on this engine and I had it on the other one too.

I just dont see that it's that bad of a motor. I understand it's the not the strongest but it shouldn't be hated upon so much.

Mods for the 3.0 and results:

FIPK ($225), no noticeable increase in performance or fuel mileage (would not buy)

Hiflow turbo muffler 2.25" ($145+install), increase in performance and fuel mileage (5% fuel economy increase, recommend)

Tornado Air System ($50), no noticeable incease (would not buy)

K&N Air Filter ($48), no noticeable increase, (trapped particulates better than OEM paper air filters, recommend)

NGK Platinum Spark Plugs ($28), slight increase (1% increase, operated cooler, and longer service life than OEM (NGK))

What I have done....

2.5" catback with Magnaflow muffler
Taurus electric fan
ISR mods
drilled out bottom of stock airbox
recent plugs/wires/cap and rotor
fuel filter

The engine is still a slug, and the 33's don't help

Well most people put oversized tires on their 3.slows, and when you have a 4500lb 4runner that it has to move its just too much. (mine with 235s, 4.10s, and a 600lb sound system was fine for the most part around here on flat ground...) The reason everyone bitches up a storm about the engine not responding to mods is only because of the restrictive heads and cams. Address those first and the rest of the bolt on mods will have nice gains to them

I am running 15 degrees on reg gas. Very noticable seat of the pants increase.

OS valves and ported heads are good too.

I think all of you are just funny. There is no reason not to like your engine. You run it all the time and continue to use it everyday on every trail. What's the problem with saying it's actually a nice engine and works. I can go up Chrstiansburg mountain and pull it in 5th gear maybe losing 5mph or just put it in 4th. Yes I'm running 33s.

I could do the same thing with my old truck with 7inches of lift and 35inch tires. She would cherp 1st and 2nd, but could climb a hill and in 4th pull up any steep incline.

If everyone doesn't like the engine so much ......

WHY DID YOU BUY A VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE IN IT ANYWAYS?

Jacobs ignition pack with wires - 1 mpg gain, no noticable horsepower gain, waste of big money.
K&N filter - nothing, waste of $40
ISR mod - louder on exceleration, engine bay looks nicer, no noticable gains. $50
elbow removed and airbox drilled - free but no noticeable gains
