3.0 exahust question

IM tryin to replace the little gasket between where the crosspipe meets the "downpipe" and there are 3 bolts on there I got one off completly, (the bolt still attached to the threads) and another one JUST the bolt came off. Im not gonna touch the third till i find out weather or not i messed up. Did i just need to take the bolt off or the entire bolt, and thread with the torx head on it?Sorry if i am to vague i dont know the terms to use for these parts.

you shouldn't need to remove the studs (the threaded part that the nut screws on to) but if they are rusted or if the threads look damaged, it couldn't hurt to remove all three and replace them. your local Toyota dealer will have replacement studs/nuts.

good luck!

no you didn't screw up. It just happens sometimes. Which ever side requires less force to come loose will. It is a good idea to replace them, but if you don't want to just clean em up real good. I ussually tap and die the holes and studs if I'm gonna reuse them. Also putting some a little wd or never seize on em makes em easier to get on and easier to get off if you think your gonna pull em off again.

and if your gonna reuse em, treat the stud/nut like a regular bolt. Those torx ends are a joke. The nuts are ussually rusted on the stud and that torx ussually strips before it even considers budging.

Congrats. I like the way a 3.0 sounds with an exhaust on it.
