Here's an odd thought. Could the machine shop have screwed up when they put the heads back together and now I have the right on the left visa versa? Is that possible and if so is there any way to check without pulling the heads?

I'm pretty sure that with the way the cams go in you couldn't get it to even work if they were backwards.

cause it looks like the heads are pretty much the same and could be mixed up. When I installed them I just went with the way the machine shop put the cams in. Is there a left/right marking on the outside of the heads???

Look again, the front and rear cam caps are very different. Front one is much longer.

Heads are COMPLETELY different. Look at the bearing locations for each cam. They are not symmetrical. Not to mention you wouldn't be able to bolt them on backwards...

Could the brake/low idle problem be related to a vacuum problem maybe? I mean the brake sys. puts a load on the vacuum system which might cause the engine to "stumble" for a minute the recover... just a thought...

Lowering the idle fixed the stumble problem.

So how does it run? Was it worth the $1300 head job or is it just so so? I wonder how the 3VZE compares with just the cams vs cams + port job + valves. Do you recommend other 3VZE owners do the same head job? Are you going to put that thing on a Dyno?

I'll hit the dyno with stock cams and then with Weasy's cams in the winter once I'm happy that the rings have set.

IMHO the valves themselves are cheep, under $100 IIRC so if your gonna do a port job the valves are stupid easy.

Ted (EB) got and extra 30hp with the valves when he was developing them, IDK what they are added to my engine but its nice ass-dyno rates them as a smile on my face. I'm still running the stock exhaust so I highly doubt I'm seeing their full potential.

Where in Canada are you?

I'm in sudbury, Ontario...

How did you ship your heads to EB? How much duty did you pay each way?

Before you go loosing your load this was with headers and porting IIRC. Ted supplies these valves to pretty much all the builders online including DOA.

What was the cost of getting your heads done? Did that include installing the OS valves, porting, installing the cams and shimming the valves?

Thanks,

CT

So I'm working on tuning the engine a little here and there. Currently I'm running 15degrees advance with no predetonation and it feels really good.
