3.0 Bad Rod knocking. (Video)
My dads 3.0 developed a bad knock after he got home from work. I'm sure its a rod knock but comment i'm all ears. I'm looking for some rebuilt kits for it. I looked on Ebay for some but anyone else have any suggestions for good reliable rebuild kits. Aside from buying (Toyota) parts. The link is bellow to the youtube vid. Motor also started running a bit rough as well. Course what motor wouldn't with that knock.....

The motor was supose to have been quote on quote "new and or rebuilt" Theres really no telling. About 70k ago the previous owner said so. The block had freash paint on it and the heads were spit shine clean. But theres no tellin. The motor could have been taken out painted cleaned and put back in. Personally it didn't sound like it was rebuilt. Oh and i dunno if anyone remembers my "slight knocking vid" but i'm sure that was the start of it. Considering this truck prob gets about 500-1000 miles a year if that, this really sucks.

Given it could be a spun bearing but before you dive into it check the harmonic balancer it looked a little loose and wobbly. It does seem like a spun bearing but i thought the same thing on a civic last month but it turned out that the pulley and ballancer was the problem. just my 2 cents might be something simple. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. good luck!

Ya know i thought about that as i looked at it but it seemed the noise was coming from the bottom and kinda back toward the engine. also when you turn the truck off you can hear kind slight rattle/chatter/knock. I don't drive the truck much so i'm not sure if the HB was wobbley before.

Just to be 200% sure i just went out and checked the Harmonic B and its not loose and i could not wiggle it as much as i tried. The woobly belt is from it being loose from the alternator adjust not tight enough. I got a pry bar and rag to see if i could budge it and its tight. Bolt is tight. But just as i thought its a rod bearing fo sho. Heard a many of em. Any body know the best place to get a rebuild kit for a 3.0 besides ebay? lol

i usually check ebay, but you said you already did that, if you do go with ebay, do research on the seller! make sure they are reputable and carry some sort of warranty if it applies to something like that. but if it was me..... well. i would use it as an excuse to drop a 3.4 in!

Ted over at engnbldr has v6 parts and really knows his stuff. I used a combination of ebay parts and his stuff to build my motor last year as did a bunch of other guys on this forum. He also sells his stuff on ebay. Some of the other hard to find parts i went with lcengineering and the toyota parts dealer. To say the least my motor is a bit of a frankenstien but solid as hell. Maybe do what i did and source your parts out of quality and convenience to find the best combination for you. The 3vze motors are a dime a dozen at junkyards around my area so maybe even pull one of those and start from there. That's what i did bought a block built the motor and swapped it. Made life easy when it came to install because i could cannibalize my old motor for parts.
