Yes, IIRC it's preferred actually because the sump is in the rear providing more clearance for compression travel.
Note that when you change front sump to rear sump, you need more than the pan - the pickup/snorkel and dipstick are different too.

I have everything. The engine I got to rebuild was a 2wd and I really don't want to buy a new pan. The sump on my 4wd was right at the rear and this one is more towards the middle.
