2nd gen body swap to 3rd gen frame
so, i have a 91 4runner that is practically falling apart. the engine is on it's last leg and the suspension is shot too. however, the body and the frame are tires and wheels are still in great shape.
what i am wondering is: is it possible to swap the body and all the necessary parts onto a 3rd. generation frame from my 2nd generation 4runner. i have seen a few 3rd gen 4runners that still run great except that they have been totaled for a decent price.
has anyone on the forum done this?

just fix the engine and suspension....swapping bodys would be 10 times more work than dropping a rebuilt engine in and fixing the suspension which cant have that much wrong with it except shocks and probably coil springs.

the problem is that i need a new engine...with all the repairs i am only a few bucks shy of just buying a 3rd gen 4runner. i'm just trying to exhaust all of my options before i have to break down and buy a new 4runner.

i have the 3.0 with 180k miles on it. ALL 6 cylinders are burning oil, the #5 cylinder holds about 10psi, when i pulled the #1 plug it was saturated with oil after sitting all night, the valve cover casket is leaking like a mofo.
the 2 different mechanics i took it to said that it could be a burned valve. they also said that if i decided to fix the valve it might not be the only problem...
i could go on and on about the prob's with this truck.

well i would say if you would rather keep this one, do a 3.4 swap. Or if its going to cost more than its worth, (which from the sounds of it it will) just sell it as is and put the money toward a 3rd gen.
