2gen help

yes and no... if the starter is shot then the engine won't start so Yes the alternator won't work if the engine is'int running...lol... sorry I could'nt help myself... the starter and alternator are seperate (not like some aircraft where the one thing does both jobs) however if the bendix [the electro-magnet that causes the cog to "pop" out and engage the flywheel] on the starter failed to release then the starter would be working like a generator and if there was a failure or mis-wire in the system then it might also have caused an over voltage condition to occur which might have cooked the battery or fried the IC regulator on the alternator [which would cause the alt. to malfunction].
Why do you ask, are you experiencing this problem?
where in Ontario are you? I can recommend an excellent shop for both parts...

Perhaps go to a local auto parts house and see if they will test the alternator for you, or pull the codes and see if you get any further info about the problems from your computer.

Check out Ararat starters/alternators in Scarberia excellent shop, really good prices. I just got a new (rebuild) Alternator from them they made a H.O. special for me (95 peak amp) for $140.00. if you just need a stock alt. they have them ready to go for $95.00. w/1yr warr.
I'm not sure if they can do a load test to verify that it is the alt. for you or not...
If you can wait for a few days there is a company in the states that has a 170 amp alt. for about $170 USD I'll see if I can dig up the linky for you...
