23 Mpg!!

I just came back from a 1400-mile trip and I managed to get 23 (YES!TWENTY THREE!) mpg on the return leg driving at a pretty steady 70-75 mph. OMG! The truck ran great; I even managed to see 110 mph for one stretch, and drove @ 90 for about 100 miles. Running like a top! WOW!

DAMN!!!!!!
For a 3.Slow...
That is amasing I think...
But I have a 3.4L and average that if the oil is changed and the air pressure is good, and filter is clean, and the gas is of a decent grade...

The runner must have been idling on a trailer or something

110? What did you do to enable it to run at that speed? All 3vz-e's have a spark cut at 104-106mph....

Mine is dead center on 105.

On the drive home (to gainesville, FL at the time) from Nashville, TN, I followed a buddy home at 60mph. My buddy had a chevy duramaxx dually pulling a car hualer so I was drafting too. On most of the downhill grades I just took the truck out of O/D and didnt touch the brakes or the gas! When I went to fill up (only used 1/2 tank) I got 27MPG!!! The rest of the drive on flatter ground my toy got 23mpg as well, which at the time was better than my average.

But in realistic driving scenarios the best ive gotten has been 25mpg - a tiny bit of tail wind, 65mph cruise, no rpms above 3400rpm and 225/75r15 car tires...lol

I had a 91 3.0 pickup and I got up to 110 on a flat road. Maybe the limiter varies.

The difference in limiters is probably due to speedometer variances.

Luckily (?), I was only doing 90 mph when the VA State Trooper saw me (ouch).

Are your tires worn down? That will spin your speedo faster and make your gas mileage seem better.

You may be running dangeriously lean. Maybe your fuel pressure is dropping for some reason. It is great to get that kind of mileage with the 3.0 but it's not normal. Unless you had a 40mph tailwind that day.

What if you have tires that are 33" tall, and your stockers are 28, with stock gears, and you hit 95mph indicated?
110mph!
I could have gone faster, if the hill was longer! lol (and didnt have 5 ppl in the truck).. i've hit 105 with 30" tires tho.. no cut at all....

Well, I've been running a '92 X-cab, same engine, for years, and steady 23-ish on the highway, so I believe it...

I used to get really crappy mileage but a new 02 sensor, Denso Iridium plugs, NGK wires, Denso distributor cap & major cleaning of the plenum & intake manifold, then fixing a huge d@mn vacuum leak by the A/C Idle Up made all the difference in the world!
