I just watched some vids on youtube a truck same year and model as mine but with the turbo engine do some sick second gear peel outs.
I gata get ahold of one of these!
and who knowes about these engines?? anyone
do they brake down more often etc etc

 

They don't break down any more than a 22re that's been worked on and is putting out 25% more power.

 

I downt know if your going to get 2nd gear peel outs from a stock 22RTE

 

LCE Makes a mean 22rte. Gonna cost you, but you can get almost 200rwhp from one.

I would probibly just do an engine swap if you wanted that much power.. Would probibly be cheaper too.

All depends on how much you wanna spend.
p.s A stock 22rte is not THAT powerfull.... Almost as much power as a stock 3vze.

that all depends on how ou drive it man...

IMO, the RTEs don't put out all that much more power over stock... not even worth the trouble to try to convert an RE to a stock RTE setup... money-wise anyway... cool-factor, well, that's in the eye of the beholder... and honestly, the OEM Toyota setup is no beautiful creation under the hood... but this is just my thoughts...

See just knowing I had a turbo under the hood, I'd be winding out every gear all day long, so the motor probably would break down sooner than your average 22re non turbo'ed, lol

but if driven in a similar, easy-going manor, they're both more than capable of 300k miles, and then some!



now if you REALLY want some boost, plan on forking out some major $$$ to get some significant HP and torque gains out of a turbo setup on the 22re...

but still only 197 hp, but the torque isn't all that bad...

but still, for the $$$$, motor swap would be MUCH better...

 

IIRC, the head gasket problems depended on year.. (so now that you know what to look for -- "not now")

 

how so son i cant spinn um from a dead stop unless its wet out.
i have 31 inchers on but.... yours isint stock eather i bet

 

bone stock man... ok, accept for my intake, but that doesn't do all that much considering the air still has to enter that 1"x2" hole in the AFM before it enters the 3" intake tube, lol; but yeah, 31's, stock gearing, and on a dry day, I can roast the rears without power-breaking

it's getting harder to do so cause the clutch is old, lol, but she'll break em lose

I've never heard of the 3rz having HG problems...I heard the first few years of them had exhaust manifold cracking problems though...

And the 3RZ(fe) is a younger brother of a 22RE

see, just my opintion, but I would much rather drop in a Lexus V8 before that...

 

The biggest problem I have (personally) with a V8 swap is the application of torque when you hit the go pedal and when you let the clutch out shifting gears. Granted, that would be mitigated by using an automatic (no sudden shock to the gear set as with a clutch), but a turbo is somewhat more subtle, and likewise more gentle on the driveline, when it comes on to boost.
Despite the higher net output, the turbo could be more gentle on the gears and driveline.

How so? The 1uz makes pretty decent low end power, but its real power comes close to redline.
Not to mention guys have been taking these things to 8,000rpm + on stock internals (aftermarket fuel delivery and ecu needed). But bone stock they hit the revlimiter at 6500rpm. Thats quite a bit of usable rpm range imo.
Isnt the 22re designed to rev relativly low?

Plus a 1uz sounds so much better then a 4cyl
