22rte BOV ?

i have a 86 turbo pickup 22rte. i am thinking of putting a 1g dsm BOV on it ( it will be recirculated) not looking for anything loud. i am more or less bothered about not having one on it period. i have owned other turbo'd vehicles and do know that they serve more of a purpose than going "pppssshhh" everytime u let off the gas. i am wondering if it's going to make it not run right or what before i spend the time and money to do it?

from my understanding (just got my first 86 turbo, my first turbo period) is that a BOV is only needed when you're making too much boost for it to be recirculated without causing the turbine to surge (not sure if thats the right terminology)
and these motors dont make alot of boost at all, mine maxes out around 6 unless im full throttle from 3 to 4 in which case i can hit 8psi

ive been told a BOV is only needed around like 20-25psi and an intercooler is only needed about like 12-15psi

I've never heard of anyone running the stock CT20 Turdblow needing one...

And IIRC a stock CT26 puts out 7.5psi too, only it flows a higher volume of air...

Also, I'm not aware of too many difference in a BOV and waste gate...

I could see you needing it more for a 5 speed, but nowhere near as much on an AT...

Since the gear changes are pretty much seamless.

A waste gate bleeds off air so the turbo only builds so much psi. The blow off valve bleeds off air when you shift so the left over pressure won't slow or stop the turbine form spinning for those few seconds. BOV's can be used and are effective on the 22rte, but they have to be the plum back kind because the afm meters the air right after the air filter.
