Hello! I bought a 1987 Toyota pickup with a 22rte about a year ago. I have been building it and it's my daily, it's sas with 33s, anyways on with the questions. A loud noise started and is getting worse. It only happens when I'm driving, it doesn't happen when there is no load on the engine. Was whenever I get to 4.5k it would start but now it starts at 2,800 rpm I get a loud screeching noise coming from my turbo I think. I have done some research and I believe my turbo needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I can't find out what kind of turbo it is therefore I can't do anything. Is it bad to drive it like this? Should I replace it? If so what kind of turbo is it? What do you guys think I should do to fix it?

Do you even know if it is the original Turbo

The worse that can happen is the turbo fails completely interesting pieces of Turbo may get sucked into the engine taking out whatever cylinders they end up in .

It may also seize up meaning no air into the engine

 

I do not know if it's the original, I've looked through all of the 22rte forums and I haven't found where I could get a new turbo nor have I found the name of the turbo.

 

Funny I have read several threads telling me just what turbo was stock and the replacements most people used .

I just can`t remember the numbers.

It seems these Turbos had issues with cracking .
