honestly I don't pay attention to it (what forum). I go under new posts and / or my USER CP to see activity to ones I've subscribed or posted to.

my own thread remains in the 86-95 forum when it's more suited for a build thread and sometimes off-topic.

Glad I checked in here-- realized that the Beck Arnley set I ordered had half moons but NO grommets! What's up w/that? Went to Auto Zone & bought a Fel-Pro kit w/gasket, grommets (w/metal caps) and half moons. Checked back in here after installing grommets "squashed down..." because when I removed grommets the nuts felt quite "loose." Tried using torque wrench-- it's still a bit "new" to the feel, I just got it-- Chilton's said 48 inch-pounds but when I read it earlier-- UGH!-- thought it said 48 FOOT-lbs.! Glad I double checked. Indeed, torque wrench started click-click-clicking when 48-inch-lbs. reached and grommets 2nd time around were NOT squashed out of shape like donuts run-over by a Mack truck. Sure does help to double-check when that niggling feeling asks "Are you SURE you did that right?". THANKS for this post. P.S. Chilton's was vague on the steps preceding removal of valve cover (p. 101), simply saying to remove the ground (which I located when re-assembling) but did say "48 inch-lbs" torque for 4-cyl. 22RE engines but emphasized "Do not overtighten these nuts."

I didn't read all the replies so if it's already said, my bad. But in these situations, get a pair of needle nose vise grips or channel locks and grab the metal of the grommets and twist them of like you would a nut.. prevents scarring of the head and makes for a easy removal.

..... and never burn brake clean. don't even use it on anything you are going to weld, smoke wrench or grind on. it can be quite deadly, similar to taking a bottle of tylenol. you will spend the next 2 weeks in slow, painful death.
