So i bought a rock crawler/truggy made from a 87 fo runna. (Pic in my avatar) diffs are locked up, has crazy articulation. 300 bucks. I got it to start but it runs like crap. It sputters and chokes out. I figured it was bad fuel because if i play with the throttle and keep revin on it i can get some power and get it to run better. I put 5 gallons in the tank last night and no change. But i did not drain the tank so if it was bad fuel maybe i did not add enough to dillute it. My plan is to drain the tank and change the spark plugs. Any other ideas? I am used to the straight up 22r. Is there any way to change the are or fuel mixture on a 22re?

 

Drain the tank and change the fuel filter and se if that helps.

 

check the vacuum lines timing plugs wires cap and rotor

 

Dump some marvel mystery oil, or seafoam in the new gas after draining tank, it well help clean injectors and valves and such. also any remaining moisture in the tank and lines will be taken care of.

 

Check the timing, and like olharleyman said, check the ignition components too.

When you run into the "just can't seem to get it that last few degrees" with the timing light, gently tap the TPS with the handle side of a screwdriver. The TPS is a well known failure point to cause odd timing issues.

Also make sure the gas cap is a vented type. You could be getting a vacuum state in the tank causing loss of proper fuel volume...
