22re timing chain rattle
Thanks to all of you for help in the past. I have a 94 4x4 toy 22re. I know my timing guides and tensioner are shot. i know that rattle. Is it a Death Rattle? i've been driving 80miles a day for a couple weeks hearing this and finally decided to get the full timing chain kit off ebay. That won't arrive until wednesday and between know and then i have to drive 80miles a day and haul a loaded trailer one of those days. Should i just go for it and deal with the consequences?
I'm thinking the worst that could happen is the chain snaps and i'm dead on the road. will that F-up the valves?2nd would be chain wearing through the water jacket.
Give me your worst advice!!

i beleive the 22re in a interference motor. I think it screws the whole motor if the chain snaps. its valve crunch time if that happens. It honestly isnt very hard to take your valve cover off shine a light down and see how much of your guides are left. It could also be the tensioner. When you do do the timing service. Check your timing cover to see if the chain wore through. There is also the hidden bolt under the cam gear thats is a puddle of oil. the spot were that bolt screws into the timing is also a very common place for the aluminum cover to break(especially since alot of people dont know its there, the PO could have got all the front bolts undone and started yanking on the cover to get it off). Unless you already bought the kit, go to engine builder . com and buy his kit with the steel rail. I think its 55 bucks and free shipping i think.
if left too long, yes the chain will wear through the cover. If there is anything else you can drive, I would. Your looking at 50 bucks and a couple hours work with just do the timing chain, but if you ruin your whole motor, your looking at a grand in parts and machine work and a couple days to rebuild the motor.
just my 2 cents, sorry if im rambling
