65, 3500rpm, 22re, 4th gear? Thats about what I was at with 4.10s and 31x10.5s. Also, with the larger tires and higher gears, the speedo will be "slow". I figured out that going 65 with the above mentioned, i was really going 68-70mph.

[quote=pitbull_myk;51149164] I want to run 36's with a simple swap. Additionally, my brother reminded me I traded him the 4.88's and lockers for 5.29 3rd members he had when I was trying to turn the 36's 2 years ago. I don't remember what RPM it was in 5th with the 36's on it, and I think it was because it couldn't even get up and going that fast. quote]
36's and 5:29's are perfect. i run down the highway in 5th gear no problem im my truck.
if your looking for good power, id say the best bang for your buck would be a 4.3 or a 350 swap. though i still think the 2.7 would be trick!

I probably f%#c$%d up by trying to do this by memory. this Truck sat for a few years in PA when I moved to DE. I recently changed jobs and lost a company truck. I decided that I would make this truck my daily driver. The info I have given is the result of me trying to go by what I remembered.
When I was using this truck in the mountains, my brother and I had 4 or 5 yodas for spare parts and a bunch of after market crap, which we swapped regularly. The PA mountains are rough on drivetrain parts.
I just got it all on the road yesterday (after tuning, brakes, bull@#$%). I screwed around with it in the yard and took some pics, but they failed to upload (gonna try facebook after this). The only thing I know for sure is that there are 33s on it now, and the tranny has stock gearing. My brother and I were always swapping stuff. I know I tried the 5.29s with the 36s. It accellerated OK, but couldn't sustain speed. It could have 4.10s, 4.88s or 5.29s now. I plan on driving it to work tommorrow, so I should get you guys some real numbers by the weekend.
Regardless of what I left in it 2 or 3 years ago, I know it was underpowered for the rotating mass I want to put on it. She did manage to crawl right up a stump in my yard with 33's full of air and poor tread for the job.
I am going to drive it to work tommorrow. I should have some real numbers for you all by the end of the weekend. Please keep the input coming as I am still trying to decide on the swap I will do. Look me up on face book if you care to see pics of it. I will try and put pics on my profile here when I log back on here.

Definatly do a check on what gears are in this thing

B/C 4.10s and anything bigger than 31s sucksssssssss, I have 4.56s now with 31s and it's a great all around set up, great off the line and can cruise at 70 @3000. But i through the 34s or the 35s on....i might as well push it up the hills

Does anyone know what toyota engines will bolt to my 1989 stock 5 spd/ 4x4 in place of my 22re? How about a link to toyota engines and compatible transmission bell housings? I have been searching for days. There are so many posts from people who are clueless, that it is impossible to find good info.
I can fabricate anything else I need to make a swap work (i.e. motor mounts, exhaust, cooling, etc.). Yes, I can do the electronics too. All I need to know is what engines will bolt to my tranny. I know the 22re is great and dependable, but it can't turn 36 inch tires and I am not putting in lower gears than I already have. I am not worried about breaking drivetrain parts because I have plenty of spares and it will give me a reason to put in stronger parts. Whoever can come up with an intelligent answer might be able to get a good, low mile 22Re real cheap. I am not always this bitter, just frustrated. Thanks for the help!!

The big hurdle right off the bat is that the intake manifold faces the wrong direction and it puts the throttle body right into the firewall of the truck
That alone would tells me the swap is an uphill battle
