22re surging only in morning just before warm

ok im new here my 22re started surging only in the morning about 2 miles from home in the same place. then when the motor warms up it stops. it wont do it in the afternoon and i don't have ac. it doesn't do it when the brake is pressed. i do have a coolant leak but don't see it from the out side so its got to be my head gasket. the motor runs real strong. i checked the bypass hoses under the tb and can blow through so i don't think its clogged. i just got it smoged and he said my idle was good.i checked for vaccum leaks with carb cleaner and cant find nothing so now im stuck. if you have any ideas it would be very helpful.

you're low on coolant and probably have a bubble in the system. Burp the coolant system and fix your leak.

thats the only way to do it, unfortunately. Try elevating the front of the vehicle to make the radiator the high point in the cooling system. Helps get the air out.

Check your spark plugs. If one or more are abnormally clean, you probably have coolant getting into the combustion chamber(s).

If symptoms still persist after you purge the air from your coolant system, replace your cap, rotor and plug wires.

I had a bad hesitation after start up in the morning when there was heavy dew or rain, after warm up it ran like a top. Checked the the same things you did and came up empty handed as well. Couple of mechanics said to change my wires, even the parts guy at the dealership said that was likely the problem. Changed all those parts and truck runs good in wet or dry weather at initial start up.

Wouldn't that likely mean a HG failure? If so he needs to book mark iamsuperbleeder's thread!

HG is most likely, but you cant rule out a cracked head or block. Thats why I said "into the combustion chamber(s)" not "the head gasket".

Heck, or even a crack/hole in the intake manifold!

thanks everyone. it is a manual. ill try to jack it up to get the air out of the system. it just weird that it surges at idle with no break on and at the same intersection every morning but not in the after noon when the motor has sat all day and is cool. i live in ca and it's not that cold in the mornings.

three of the plugs looked ok that tannish color, need to be changed tho. but one has like a carbon build up inside the plug but not on the tip or little finger, what ever its called.
