22re running rough (searched and searched)

First off, 94 22re 4x4 hilux short cab.

1.) New plugs (ngks) wires, cap and rotor

2.) adjusted tps sensor and cleaned the hell out of the t-body (the set screw for the throttle is suppose to be at 0.00 clearance when the plate is fully closed right?)

Now the problems,

When its cold out and the truck has been sitting, it starts up fine and runs great. If you let the truck get to half warm (driving 5-10 minutes) stop and come back out to run it again, the idle is extremely low and the truck usually dies in a couple of second, this only happens when the truck is inbetween hot and cold. Once warmed up, and you come to a stop, apply the brakes the idle builds up, then drops then builds up and then drops, maybe 3-4 seconds for a cycle. Now this surging only happens in 2wd, shift into 4wd and problem solved

Any ideas?
(ive spent hours searching this forum and anyhelp is greatly appreciated)

Hooly mackeral- I have the same dam problem with my 92 22re. I have done the tune up, Seafoam, TPS adjustment and I sick of searching and reading!

Calling Rodger Brown! Help us!

I have no help to offer but I will be watching this thread.

According to my factory repair manual for my carbureted truck, there are some emission controls that are off when cold and operate differently when the engine is either warm or hot. I think the system that does this is the air suction system and fuel control feedback systems. I would assume that the fuel injected engines have some similar emissions controls. Try checking your temperature sensors, vacuum switches, and the oxygen sensor. See if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer.

I checked my factory repair manual and it appears to use a different temperature switch when the truck is in 4wd. Check all of your temperature sensors. Check for resistance gets lower as the temperature gets higher. Post the temperature of your coolant and the resistance and I will check the chart in my repair manual.

which sensor is the temperature sensor for the 4wd (looking toward teh intake manifold from the front) Where did u get that manual and can u confirm the throttle plate is supose to be closed when adjusting it?

checked the egr valve, at idle no vacuum and rev it I feel a vacuum, i also sprayed starting fluid and found no leaks, Kinda off topic, what does that screw valve do that on the upper intake plenum. IT has two hoses one from the t-body and one going to the dissy. Does thsi need adjustents?

I am not sure which temperature sensor is for what. Check them all. I think the 4wd one is good because it works when you are in 4wd. It would probably be a different temperature sensor that is not working. I got my manual on eBay. It is a factory repair manual for 1987 trucks and 4Runners. I would think that the throttle plate would have to be closed when adjusting it. If a hose is going to the distributor then it would be for a vacuum advance, but I think fuel injected vehicles do not use one. Go to www.autozone.com and look at a vacuum diagram.

Blocked/rusted EGR vacuum Pipes

Hi I just wanted to add here I had to replace the metal vacuum tubes that go to the EGR on my 85 22re because they were plugged with rust or guck. I found a good set of tubes at a junk yard. Pete
