Has anyone ever heard of drilling small holes in the rocker arms to help with lubrication on aftermarket cams?

 

The only people I know of who do that is round track racers who end up with all the oil on the right side of the engine. Drilling holes in the passenger side rocker arms allows oil to squirt out over onto the cam and valvesprings of the driver side, lubing the cam and cooling the springs. Prob not good at low rpms.

 

just wondering I heard some where that the angle the rocker runs at with a higher lift cam may not properly lubricate the cam ?

 

I've never heard of drilling holes in the rocker arms and I don't even think it would be a good idea. If you are going to drill out anything in the valve train it should be the rocker shafts. Downey sells them for $65.00.

 

Ummmm , Yes there is a good idea in modin' the stock rocker arms ! The stock r. arms are just what they say they are "stock" ! the modification in drilling them to direct the oil to either the intake or the exaust cam lobe . when you drill these extra holes and direct them towards the cam , the cam will be pre-oiled ( bathed)before it comes in contact with the rocker arm, Period ! Hence, it is pre oiled and will prevent unesasary wear do to under oiling the in/ex lobes of the cam . Stock engines don't have that advantage , they rely on the "Splash effect " and is ok in a stock engine , only ! Drilling these holes will extend the life of both the cam & rocker arms on both intake & exaust ! :-D ! It's not really advantagious on a stock motor , they'll last 250/300K mi. w/o it ! IF you want your stock motor to act like a performance engine i would highly recomend it, it's a cheap fix !
