'89 2wd 5spd 193,000. WalMart SuperTech 10-30 couple times a year or 3,000 miles or so.

Runs like a top. Was bro's work truck from new until '04 when I got it with 144,000 miles. Don't know what he did about oil changes. His kid learned to drive with it. Bro always has been hard on cars. He wore out/beat up a cherry '65 GTO w/389 4spd.

I got it at 144,000. I replaced timing set at 155,000. Had shops do the clutch pedal bracket, front brakes, clutch, 4ea rebuilt injectors, front end align, etc. When I first got it, I'd change oil every 6 months with whatever on sale by the case...Shell, Chevron, Havoline etc. Last few years I got the synthetic bug, so I use Walmart SuperTech 10-30 and Toyota filter. I quit changing filters cuz I don't see evidence of oil flowing through the filter? Bro told me he used some "Slick 50" teflon snake oil years ago. Maybe that stuff plugged up the oil system. Any way, its made a couple of 900 miles blast down I5 with a motorcycle in back a couple of years ago when I moved down here from Washington. Doesn't smoke or use oil except a few ounces after one of those 70 mph all day 900 miles blasts. Passed California smog just fine last year on original muffler and catalytic. I love my truck.

On the '08 Corolla that I bought new, I've used WallyWorld StuporTech 5-30 3 mo/3,000miles intervals. Oil's cheap and the planet can take care of itself just fine...

If there's no oil flowing through the filter, FIX IT.There's some very good reasons they have the filter in the system. I've used the Slick50 in both trucks, and had NO problems with it. I doubt that's what's causing there to be no oil flow through the filter.
If it were me, I would get the oil flow through the filter situation fixed ASAP. You're not me, though.

Good luck to you!

The OEM Toyota filters can look pretty clean after an oil change, at least from what I have seen posted online in forums and videos. I think it's a combo of large media surface area and low efficiency on smaller particles meaning less of the fine material sticking to it?

If your oil filter wasn't letting oil through, you would have a blown engine by now. Toyota makes good stuff, but nothing would survive that! LOL
